Forget Dogs vs Cats... Try Owls vs Octopuses

I love dogs and cats. I've lived with both. I'm not about to join the debate on which is better. I recently read a post where someone described having a dog is like having a 4 year old and having a cat is like having a 9 year old. Accurate.

But two of my favorite and sorely underrated animals on the planet are owls and octopuses. Never given them a second thought? Let me intrigue you.

Owls are adorable. I once read an article that explained the "cuteness" factor in animals is enhanced when an animal has larger eyes. So, puppies, kitties, all animal babies, have larger eyes. Cute. Well, owls have large eyes at any age. If humans had proportionately sized eyes, they would be as large as oranges. An owl's feathers are fluffy-looking and the way they move their head makes them look cuddly and cute. BUT... everything that makes them cute, also makes them vicious predators. Their huge, cute eyes are actually tubes that work like binoculars. And those cute head movements allow an owl to pinpoint a field mouse a mile away by turning its head until the sound of the mouse is equal in both ears. Even its cute round face is made for hunting. It is shaped like a satellite dish and it can change the shape of its face to maximize its ability to capture sound waves. There are over 200 species of owls and here's 10 of the cutest.

Octopuses are smart. It is thought that they have the intelligence of dolphins or orangutans. Scientists/zoologists have put these amazing creatures to various intelligence tests.

Watch:

Owls and octopuses are equally amazing. I wouldn't dare choose a favorite, however, I will give the winner a high-8!
